Following huge acclaim last year when Alford Silver Band and the Elizabethan Singers combined to present a joint concert of Remembrance to commemorate the Centenary of the armistice of the Great War, the two organisations will combine again for this year’s Remembrance.
The town’s two biggest and most popular musical organisations will come together again in St Wilfrid’s Church, Alford onSaturday 9th November for a concert that promises to lift the roof off the church.
The performance will start at 7.30 pm.
Both organisations enjoy a wide following and have teamed up twice before, on both occasions delighting a huge audience with the excellence of their performances.
“It is very special occasion when we both come together,” said the Elizabethan Singer’s director of music, Andrew Willoughby. “We work very well together and complement each other’s performance. Both the band and the choir will be pulling out all the stops for the evening”
The choir and the band will perform a wide variety of music, not all of which will focus on Remembrance. “This will be the celebration of the life and culture we enjoy as a result of the earlier sacrifice of those who fought in the wars,” explained Andrew.
The choir will perform the first half before handing over to the band. And the evening will end with a chance for the audience to participate in singing some of the popular songs from the war years.
The Royal British Legion will parade its standard, and part of the proceeds from the concert will go towards the Poppy Appeal.
The band’s youthful music director, Josh Wilkinson said, “we are really looking forward to playing alongside the Elizabethan Singers again. St Wilfrid’s has a fantastic acoustic and it gives us both the opportunity to put on the very best of performances. And it is a very fitting venue for this period of Remembrance.”
